This is a significant opportunity for a collaborative senior leader to directly influence the financial and non financial performance of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports into the Deputy Secretary, Corporate Services, Finance & Enablement and is responsible for leading the development of strategic advice to Ministers, Treasury, and MBIE's Senior Leadership Team including the Chief Executive.
This is a crucial role overseeing the stewardship of MBIE's financial and non financial performance while providing support to mitigate financial risks along with developing and implementing organisational frameworks.
We're looking for an experienced senior leader with proven success leading large, finance teams.You'll have a reputation for working with the business to drive innovative strategies, frameworks and work programmes which help to develop people, shape systems and processes, and meet the changing needs of customers and government.
Building key relationships and leading a highly skilled team of finance business partners are key accountabilities of the role.The CFO is a key contributor to the Senior Leadership Team at MBIE.
You will have a deep understanding of the principles and conventions of government and whole-of-government basis on which the New Zealand State sector operates.
This knowledge will help support the stewardship of MBIE, including its medium to long term fiscal sustainability, capability and capacity, and place in the wider public sector.
Establishing effective trusted relationships within MBIE and also with Treasury, Te Kawa Mataaho, Audit New Zealand, crown entities, other agencies and key private organisations are critical in this role.

Skills and Experience Required
To be successful in this role you will bring:
- Significant experience at a senior executive level in the State Sector with extensive experience in policy leadership
- A reputation for leading complex, diverse functions and delivering results;
- Proven strategic leadership experience at a senior level in a large and complex organisation;
- Demonstrated ability to take a broad perspective and consider the implications of situations in terms of the wider context beyond MBIE; and
- Demonstrated political acumen and ability to work with Ministers.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principals of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Top Secret security clearance required
