Middlemore Hospital is the main hub for acute care and referral services within the
Counties Manukau district. It is an accredited, 800 bed, teaching hospital of Auckland University and caters for most medical and surgical specialties with a catchment area of around 500,000 people.

The appointee will join our large Medicine Department and a well-established Infectious Disease team. We have a cohesive team that will provide a very supportive and stimulating environment for a clinician with a keen interest in clinical research. The department is active in research and has interests in a variety of areas.

The ID department consists of 9 part-time SMOs and 2 registrars.

The department works very closely with other infection services, namely microbiology, infection, prevention & control (IP&C), OutPatient Antmicrobial (OPAT) services and infectious diseases pharmacy.

Applicants should be strong team players.

The ID service at CM Health provides extensive specialist consultation and advice as required across the institution for adult inpatients and outpatients including community advice through its inpatient services, outpatient clinics, OPAT support and advice lines. The service maintains a 24hr, 7 days a week, rostered on call service.

To undertake and carry out research and facilitate the management of patients under the care of the Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Services within the Division of Medicine.

Responsible to Clinical Director of Medicine primarily, secondary responsibility to Clinical Head of Infectious Diseases and the Clinical Microbiologists.
