Key focus areas will include:

  • Foster a collaborative environment based on quality, innovation, sharing, responsiveness, and open communication.
  • Lead the team from an operational perspective including recruitment, training, performance management and development, coaching and workforce planning.
  • Create and maintain a culturally sensitive environment for all who are part of what we do, aligning our work with the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Manage the department budget and ensure that results are achieved within defined budget parameters.
  • Future proofing the service with strategic planning, including new quality initiatives and process improvements.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, coupled with appropriate and significant work experience in a service delivery capacity.
  • High level of understanding of laboratory operations, systems and processes.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining quality standards is key as is previous experience building process improvement initiatives to streamline business practices.
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to communicate complex concepts and solutions to both internal and external clients/stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience leading a diverse team and strong operational management skills.
