Conventional cows' milk contains two main types of beta casein protein, A2 protein and A1 protein - our branded milk is different from conventional cows' milk because it comes from cows selected to naturally produce only the A2 protein type and no A1.

Many consumers and healthcare professionals report that certain people who experience challenges drinking conventional cows' milk may experience benefits when they switch to a2 Milk.

The a2 Milk Company has products and trading activities in Australia, New Zealand, Greater China, North America, and a selection of emerging markets.


About the role:


The a2 Milk Company seeks a Product Development Technologist to join our high-achieving product development team who will be responsible for the continued development and commercialisation of new infant nutrition and nutritional powder products.

Reporting to our Group Head of Product Development, you will lead projects supporting workstreams on completed IMF (Infant Milk Formula) projects whilst being mentored by our team of Senior Technologists.


More specifically, you will be involved in:

  • Providing technical & formulation guidance to third-party development & commercialisation of new products. Specifically, developing the technical brief, ensuring formulations & ingredients comply with relevant market regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct inhouse development of formulations ensuring market compliance, claims/consumer requirements & COGS targets are met. Sourcing of ingredients working with Quality & Regulatory teams to ensure compliance and approval.
  • Preparation of prototypes for internal review & consumer research, lead shelflife validation/recommendation & coordinates product trials, validation testing & first production. Ensures projects are delivered on time & to budget.
  • Identify product technical risks & develop/execute mitigation plans.
  • Responsible for technical validation of packaging including specification approval & completion of transit tests as required.

About you:


You will hold a degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Nutrition, or other science related degree with 3+ years' experience in formulation, development and delivery of dairy based infant nutrition or nutritional powders.

In addition, you will confidently be able to highlight capability in product delivery using your analytical and solutions focused methodology.

The following are essential skills to be considered for this role- Degree qualified in Food Technology, Food Science, Nutrition, or other related science degree.


  • 3+ years of experience in product development or related role.
  • Some experience in the formulation, development & delivery of dairy based infant nutrition or nutritional powders is required.
  • Experience of working with third party manufacturers advantageous.
  • Broader dairy portfolio background advantageous.
  • Proven capability in product delivery, analytical and problem solving and delivering outcomes/results with agility.
  • A key requirement of the role is sensory evaluation. Any allergies to be declared.
  • Ability to partner with a wide range of internal & external stakeholders to deliver results.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Team player.
