Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunities' Our public transport team brings together expertise to support delivery and implement change across the sector.

We need driven and organised people who can own and embrace change and partner with others.

We are currently looking for a Senior Advisor, Regional Delivery role to join our team and provide advice to support complex Public Transport programmes throughout New Zealand.

This is a diverse role where any given day could see you:

- providing specialist advice and thought leadership in relation to leveraging Public Transport to realise broader outcomes
- ensuring alignment and integration with other Waka Kotahi teams contributing to broader urban development and climate response outcomes
- providing advice and influencing the development of complex Public Transport programmes via both internal and external stakeholders
- developing and fostering strong working relationships with public transport authorities, operators and other sector participants
- sourcing data and developing insights at a national level
- developing and implementing new initiatives that enable improvements to public transport system in partnership with sector stakeholders
- assessing business cases, procurement plans and funding requests


Our Regional Delivery team supports Public Transport Authorities and other key stakeholders by providing expertise on best practice and strategic direction, including input into business cases, investment proposals, procurement and integrated service design.

Ko koe tēnei | About you You will be used to working in dynamic, complex environments to either implement government policy or support the delivery of public transport services.

We have a lot going on with multiple stakeholders and partners, so the ability to disseminate lots of information and communicate effectively in fast-moving situations is a must.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience in a public sector role (central or local government) or working for government clients, with a high level of conceptual and analytical thinking in a dynamic, complex environment
  • Proven experience building credibility across a range of internal and external stakeholders particularly with transport providers or local government
  • Experience working with partners and stakeholders to align evidence, outcomes and prioritise systems responses
  • A passion for shaping and creating good practice to positively influence the outcomes of the transport system and the wellbeing of New Zealanders
  • Experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
  • Public Transport network planning and service design
  • Government procurement
  • Data analytics, or at a minimum, an understanding of transport data
  • A genuine passion to build on or develop an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori
