The Pae Ora legislation gives us the mandate and opportunity to create a system of commissioning that has the needs of whānau and communities at its heart.

In this new model, we are not 'commissioners' holding the power.

We are Te Tiriti o Waitangi partners and allies, we are listeners of diverse voices, we are holders of the space for communities and whānau to lead.

We are a team of teams who live within and reflect the communities we serve.


We are responsible for designing community-based systems of care, agreeing health and wellbeing plans, executing those plans, and monitoring outcomes which then feed into the design process.

We work in partnership with our Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora colleagues to shape system-wide public health services across the motu.


The Principal Advisor, Quality & Risk is the senior lead within the office that provides the internal quality and risk management and reporting for either the Office of the Regional Wayfinder or the National Office of the Director, Commissioning.

The Regional and National roles will work closely together with common systems, standards and processes of quality & risk management.


This role manages the Te Waipounamu Region made up of Nelson Marlborough, Canterbury, South Canterbury, West Coast and Southern. Ideally, you will be based in one of these locations, but this can be discussed at interview stage.

  • Significant experience in risk management systems and process
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor complex messages to a range of audiences
  • Experience in the development and presentation of wellarticulated, unambiguous and robust advice, papers and reports
  • A proven ability to use data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities, to influence and guide organisational and systemlevel decision making
  • Previous experience working in government and a thorough understanding of the machinery of government
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and influencing relationships and partnerships across sectors and organisations including with Māori and Pacific Peoples groups.
