Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
We are seeking two Principal Advisors who will bring their leadership, experience, and expertise to the System Performance Monitoring team at Te Puni Kōkiri
Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity

The System Performance Monitoring team has overall responsibility for the monitoring work programme at Te Puni Kōkiri in its legislated role to monitor and liaise with public service agencies to ensure the adequacy of services provided to Māori.

The team works collaboratively across Te Puni Kōkiri and with external agencies to provide evidence-informed insights, which allow us to better understand where we can influence system level change.

Te Puni Kōkiri's cross-enterprise monitoring approach involves walking alongside mainstream agencies while they design and deliver whānau-centred, locally-led, indigenously designed services & interventions.

The System Performance Monitoring team plays a key role in supporting ongoing monitoring work across the organisation whilst also using data and evidence to proactively identify new opportunities.

The Principal Advisors will be responsible for leading and overseeing monitoring work programmes, and providing support and mentoring to other members of the team.

The roles will include proactively developing relationships within and outside the organisation to enhance understanding of our monitoring approach, build collaboration, and ensure Te Puni Kōkiri is positioned to have the most impact on improving outcomes for Māori.

Ko wai koe | About you

This opportunity is suited to people with strong communication, relationship management and influencing skills, along with proven experience using quantitative and qualitative data and information to support evidence-informed decision making.

The common criteria for success are:

  • Experience in research, monitoring and outcome measurement methodologies, and in using evidence to support policy and programme development.
  • The ability to build, maintain and enhance relationships within Te Puni Kōkiri, and with government departments, Māori, and other key stakeholder groups.
  • A good understanding of tikanga Māori and a commitment to achieve the vision set out in te Tiriti o Waitangi. Ability to speak, or willingness to learn, Te Reo Māori would be beneficial.
  • A high standard of written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and critical reasoning.
  • Understanding of government and the public service and the rationale and mechanisms for government intervention.
  • Ability to respond to changing demands and priorities, deal with ambiguity and give shape to unformed ideas.
We are guided by our values of excellence, valuing people and relationships, working collectively and being creative and innovative. We invest in our people - you'll be encouraged to develop and contribute to your fullest potential. We believe strongly in work/life balance and understand that your whānau is just as important as you. And we're committed to your wellbeing and learning and development.

The midpoint for this role is $129k per annum.
