About the role:

The Financial Accountant is responsible for running the accounting and financial activities of Simple Machines. They provide financial information to internal stakeholders, enabling these parts of the business to make budgeting and investment decisions. The Financial Accountant reports on costs, productivity, margins and company expenditures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support with the day-to-day, monthly and annual accounting activities.
  • Process accounts receivable invoicing and all related tasks on a fortnightly basis. This includes maintaining our time sheeting system to ensure submission deadlines have been met. Ensuring client payments are not overdue.
  • Process accounts payable invoicing and all related tasks on a regular basis, ensuring payment due dates are met.
  • Process and reconcile all company credit cards and staff reimbursements, ensuring payment due dates are met.
  • Monitoring daily communications in the Accounts inbox and answering any queries.
  • Process and reconcile AU & NZ payroll on a fortnightly basis.
  • Prepare and reconcile for lodgement of AU payroll tax, PAYG and super. Ensuring payment due dates are met.
  • Prepare monthly updates for the UK external payroll providers.
  • Manage weekly, monthly and quarterly tax payments.
  • Assist with managing the general ledger, including reconciling the balance sheet, banking, and intercompany accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with the reconciliation of accounts.
  • Completion of monthly prepayments, accruals, journals, fixed assets, and depreciation schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation of month end reports, covering profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and internal management reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of year end accounts and statutory accounts, including gathering information for the external tax accountants.
  • Liaise with the AU, NZ & UK tax accountants regularly for various lodgements such as GST/VAT and PAYE.
  • Ensure there is adequate insurance cover and renew on an annual basis as required.
  • Examining financial records to check for accuracy.
  • Provide back up support when the Director of Finance is on leave.
  • Provide back up support when the Senior Management Accountant is on leave.
  • Support the Director of Finance with administrative support as requested.
  • Provide support to the business with ad-hoc client requests as required.

Requirements

What we're looking for:

A talented full-time Financial Accountant to join us in our Christchurch office reporting to our Director of Finance. This role will suit someone who is commercially minded, is a self-starter and can work and solve problems autonomously in a fast-paced environment. You will be comfortable working with accounting packages like Xero and/or MYOB. You will bring a strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and accountability.

Requirements:

  • Have at least 5-7 years of experience in accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in finance or accounting.
  • Working towards/completion of CA/CPA.
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills in a deadline driven environment.
  • Good inter-personal skills and ability to build rapport with key stakeholders within the business.
