About our Policy Partnerships Puni


Te Puni Kōkiri is the principal policy advisor to the government on Māori wellbeing and development and contributing significantly to the improvement of Māori wellbeing outcomes.

To do this, we must exert leadership and influence on the public sector system to enable and support the government to deliver positive wellbeing outcomes for Māori.

The Policy Partnerships Puni has the following core value propositions:

Our Policy Partnerships Puni works at the forefront of policy development within Te Puni Kōkiri, and we are looking to build our existing talent base and recruit experienced Advisors to join our puni, which is located in our National Office in Wellington.


About the Operational Policy & Design Team


The Operational Policy and Design Team is responsible for providing operational policy and service design support to ensure effective end-to-end design and implementation of policy projects.

We strive to be a centre of excellence within Te Puni Kōkiri and wider government, utilising relationally centred design innovation approaches in the design and implementation of policy in ways that acknowledge and promote te ao Māori.


About the Role


We have an exciting opportunity for an Advisor to join our team and support the management of projects that awhi the development, design and implementation of new initiatives and the development of associated business cases.

This position contributes significantly to achieving our objective of leading the way in developing and implementing government policies that support whānau, hapū and iwi in meeting their goals.


This is your opportunity develop your public sector skills through enhancing the reputation of Te Puni Kōkiri with Māori, the state sector and government, by bringing your te ao Māori perspective to your work and your ability to work effectively with government and other agencies, and with whānau, hapū and iwi.


About You
You will demonstrate a growing knowledge and interest in government, public service and public sector processes. You will be keen to develop working relationships with key stakeholders within Te Puni Kōkiri and across government departments.

Being comfortable operating in a te ao Māori environment will be a given and you will have well-developed verbal and written communication skills.


You need to be:

  • Set apart from the others because of your desire to make a difference to improving Māori wellbeing.
  • A positive thinker with a positive attitude towards working collaboratively with others to develop solutions.
  • An excellent communicator both orally and through writing to a range of audiences.
  • Able to see the big picture yet distil complex issues into clear advice.
