What we do

Our Hauora Māori service named - Ranga
Hauora -, predominantly based at Burwood Hospital / Te Whare Toa Takitini, recognises
the significance of ensuring patients/tangata whaiora feel at ease when
receiving healthcare both in a hospital setting and out in the community as we
work towards Pae Ora.
Our service also enables staff to access the
support and resources available to ensure we meet the cultural needs of our
patients.
This is a fixed term, twelve month, full time
opportunity working 40hr per week. The role will be based predominantly at
Burwood Hospital but will provide support to Kaumātua and whānau
living in the Waitaha community also.

The Role:

you fit in

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Working with and for Māori tūroro and their whānau to ensure their
cultural needs are met during their healthcare journey;

  • Providing cultural
support and assist the care teams to co-ordinate visits to korero, manaaki and
tautoko all Māori inpatients

  • Work in cooperation
with OPH&R staff using cultural knowledge and experience to ensure Māori
receive support throughout their care journey

  • Identifying
and leading service development by commenting, proposing changes within the section, department,
service, directorate or the whole organisation, including support to staff to
participate in and contribute to quality improvement activities.

  • Staying
connected and engaged with Te Aka Whai Ora/ Māori health
authority to ensure national programmes of work are embedded across the
OPH&R division

  • Working collaboratively with the Pou Whirinaki and all OPH&R
staff to support the use of Māori models to achieve - Whānau Ora - ;

  • Liaising with external entities such as case managers and external
healthcare providers;

  • Adhering to guidelines of Cultural Safety and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Lead
ing, coaching and developing Ranga Hauora staff as well as
other Hauora Māori workers across the organisation as required

Your skills will include:

  • Minimum of three years experience in health care
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Hauora Māori and experience in
Māori health service delivery is highly desired;

  • Strong computer skills are essential, preferably with
administrative experience;

  • A current driver s licence (a minimum of a restricted license is
essential);

  • Strong knowledge of tikanga, kaupapa Māori;
  • Whakawhanaungatanga (ability to forge and foster relationships);
  • Whakamanaakitanga (ability to treat others with respect,
encouragement and support);

  • Whakakotahitanga (ability to work in your role and actively participate
and align this to our organisational values and goals).

  • Experience in education of tangata whaioraNgā hua |
