**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join our Health Protection team as a** **Public Health Emergency Manager Regional Lead **in the central region. This role will see you implementing the Public Health Emergency Management work program and function including Risk Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery for the National Public Health Service. This is the opportunity to co-ordinate, support and enable the response to potential or actual public health emergencies.
This role is key to supporting public health emergency management for the health and disability system and providing assurance to our partners and governance structure on the state of readiness across the system.

You have experience in developing and implementing activities for improving public health and health protection. You're able to demonstrate mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present in a clear, persuasive, and impactful way, to influence others to embrace change. You have experience leading a team and can contribute strategically to connect with people to build an engaged and productive team.
**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- Tertiary qualification in a health or relevant field and/or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of the health system, risk management, and managing at the political interface
- Excellent understanding of Emergency Response and Readiness legislation, regulations and standards
- Able to analyse performance to ensure the quality of work, identify areas of improvement, problem solve, and make sound decisions to achieve goals
- Have an understanding of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost management
- Able to build mutually beneficial partnerships internally and externally with inter-dependent stakeholders across different organisational and community representation including hapu and iwi, required to achieve sustainable performance outcomes
