Ngā kawenga | About the role
Join the newly formed Tumu Herenga team in our kaupapa of improving how we respond to Māori in our care and their whānau, focusing on ensuring a baseline of Māori cultural safety. This role will report into our Pou Herenga, Kaupapa Māori Integrated Systems.
The Principal Adviser Kaupapa Māori Practice guides our Psychology and Programmes teams on Te Ao Māori methodologies and approaches within rehabilitation programme design, training, implementation, and evaluation. This mahi empowers us to move to bi-cultural practice by elevating a Te Ao Māori world view and encouraging kaimahi to engage and understand.
Day to day, you will train and support new Kaupapa Māori supervisors, engage and partner with Iwi, lead projects and hui, coach and mentor kaimahi, advise on programme design and guide your colleagues as they navigate Kaupapa Māori models and frameworks.

You are a purpose-driven thought leader with a deep knowledge and lived experience of Te Ao Māori, mātauranga Māori and Tikanga Māori. Your career has seen you gain expertise in programme facilitation, learning design, Māori cultural supervision, counselling, social work, or other community-based work.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

**You will bring the following in your kete**:

- Strong coaching skills in Te Reo Maori, Tikanga Māori and Māori cultural supervision
- A sound knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it applies to Kaupapa Māori within Te Ara Poutama Aotearoa
- Deep knowledge and understanding of Māori issues in Aotearoa today, and a strong sense of Māori Identity
- Proven ability to analyse and operationalise policy
- Commitment to, and awareness of, the cultural issues associated with service delivery in the public sector
- A Wānanga /tertiary qualification or knowledge of Te Ao Māori from your lived experience

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The midpoint of the salary range is $137,525 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $116,897 - $165,030. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
