Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
Part time position up to 0.6 role FTE

available (please indicate in your cover letter you - re preferred hours, as
extra FTE may be negotiable, but would have to be discussed at interview).

  • NZ
Registered Psychologist (essential);

  • Previous
experience in a hospital setting with cancer and or other patients is preferred
but not essential.

  • Pay rate available on MECA attached

The Team:
What we do;
Cancer Psychological and Social Support Services up to 0.6FTE, negotiable.
The Christchurch
based Cancer Psychological and Social Support Services team has a vacancy for a
suitably qualified and experienced Clinical Psychologist / Psychologist.
The
successful applicant will be joining a dedicated team of four social workers
and three other psychologists based near Christchurch Hospital, delivering
service across the Canterbury region, starting January 2023.
Our Christchurch based team is part of an upper South Island regional service, with
colleagues in Nelson-Marlborough and Timaru.
As the
leading cause of death, cancer directly or indirectly impacts the lives of
countless New Zealanders. With increasing global awareness of the importance of
professional psychosocial support and a gap in local service provision, the
Ministry of Health launched a National support initiative in 2016, deploying
teams across the country. The service is
now well established, but continually being refined, so the successful
applicant will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to both shaping
and delivering a service that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of
many patients and their whānau.
Our team
provides support to patients who are under suspicion of, or in treatment for,
recently diagnosed cancer (or a recurrence thereof), and who carry their unfair
share of difficulties that could jeopardise their treatment, and/or their (or
their family / whānau - s)
adjustment to the illness.

The Role:
Where you fit in
In

this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Assessment and treatment of patients referred
to the service

  • Provision of support and advice to members of
the wider multidisciplinary team

  • Participation in the ongoing development of

the serviceYour skills / qualifications will include:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • NZ
Registration as a Psychologist (essential);

  • Previous
experience in a hospital setting with

cancer patients would be ideal, but experience in supporting people facing
significant health difficulties would provide a good foundation.
