**Mō te tūnga | About the role**

The Children’s Haematology and Oncology Centre (CHOC) at Christchurch Hospital is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of tamariki/ children and young people with cancer and haematological conditions, from the South Island and Lower part of the North Island.

CHOC is one of New Zealand's two specialist treatment centres for childhood cancer, alongside Starship Hospital. Located on the Christchurch Campus, we offer comprehensive care for infants, children, and adolescents diagnosed with cancer. Our facility includes 11 in-patient beds, each with an ensuite, and a Day Stay area for continued treatment, supportive care, and check-ups. We are a large multidisciplinary team, including paediatric oncologists, registrars, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, dietitians, social workers, pharmacists, researchers, and psychologists, all dedicated to providing holistic care.

We are looking to welcome an experienced Psychologist, to join our team on a Permanent (0.6FTE) 24 hour per week basis.

**Ko wai koe | About You**

As a Psychologist at CHOC, you will play a crucial role in supporting the psychological wellbeing of tamariki and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment. Your work will focus on helping young patients and their families cope with the emotional and psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis. This role involves a blend of clinical practice, staff support, and multidisciplinary collaboration, ensuring a holistic approach to care.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide psychological support to young cancer patients and their families.
- Conduct assessments and deliver evidence-based interventions.
- Work closely with our medical team to ensure well-rounded care.
- Educate and support CHOC staff on the psychological needs of our patients.

**It is essential that you have**:

- Registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board with a current Annual Practising Certificate.
- Membership in a professional psychological organisation (NZCCP and/or NZPsS).
- Strong background in health psychology theory and principles.
- Experience working with children and families dealing with significant emotional stress, particularly in a healthcare setting.

**Desired Experience**:

- At least 5 years’ experience as a psychologist, with senior-level experience preferred.
- Experience in supervising other psychologists and/or healthcare professionals.
- Demonstrated commitment to biculturalism and working with culturally diverse individuals.
- Expertise in service implementation and development within a healthcare setting.
