The
Psychiatric Consultation Service (PCS) provides specialist assessment and
treatment of clients with complex physical health conditions who are under the
care of hospital-based specialists (such as neurology, general surgery, nephrology,
gastro-enterology etc). PCS supports the client to manage the emotional impact
of their physical health condition.
This role requires
both inpatient work at Christchurch Hospital, Christchurch Women - s and Burwood
Hospital and outpatient work at the Christchurch Hospital campus. The primary
role for the clinical psychologist at PCS is within the outpatient setting. PCS
is a small but highly supportive team, consisting of experienced clinical
psychologists, consultant psychiatrists, psychiatry registrars and mental
health nurses who are all dedicated and passionate about this area of work.
Psychologists
working in PCS also become part of a larger psychology team (both in the physical
and mental health sectors) and have access to journal clubs and special
interest groups to support their practice. Each psychologist is funded to
attend professional training, and psychologists are encouraged to develop
specialty areas of practice and to teach or do research in these areas. Te
Whatu Ora - Waitaha also offers a range of free training in supervision and
leadership.

This position
requires someone who has a high level of experience and has the ability to work
both autonomously and collaboratively. With your knowledge base, you - ll be well
equipped to support staff from a range of professional backgrounds with advice
and clinical consultation.
In this role, you
**will**:
- Provide comprehensive clinical assessment, psychometric testing, and
therapeutic interventions individually or in groups;
- Support the team in developing psychological formulation of its clients;Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako - Skills and Experience
- You will have an appreciation of the role of a clinical psychologist in
the medical mental health setting, as well as awareness of the boundaries and
limitations of this role.
- You will be able to provide supervision and consultation to colleagues
from a range of disciplines
- You - ll need great organisation and excellent time management to keep up
with this client group; this is a busy department where you will be working
with a wide range of clients with complex presentations, whose health needs change
rapidly.
- You will have the ability to work collaboratively within a
multidisciplinary team;
- You will be a NZ Registered Psychologist in the Clinical scope with a
current practicing certificate;
- Experience of working with clients with complex physical health
