MHM Automation is a New Zealand based company that designs and supplies innovative automated systems and equipment for the global food processing (dairy, meat, and produce), timber/sawmilling, and logistics sectors.

The Specialty Manufacturing business unit designs and build specialist equipment for the dairy, agriculture, timber, and other primary industries.The Role:
Working out of our Christchurch office and reporting to our Group COO, the General Manager – Specialty Manufacturing will be the foundation of organisational success, adeptly steering the team through strategic planning, operational finesse, and unwavering leadership.
The business unit comprises of our Sales, Workshop, Engineering, Innovation and Project Management teams, of which you will lead and manage, ensuring there is a high performing mindset at all times.
As the overseer of every facet of the Specialty Manufacturing business unit's operations ($28 M annual turnover), from financial management to customer relations, you will be the driving force behind achieving goals and maximising profitability.
Your previous experience and knowledge will assist you in developing sales strategies to achieve targets and KPIs for the business unit, ensuring continuous improvement of engineering practices, while empowering the team to foster innovation initiatives and developing an environment that is conducive to collaboration.
You will be a team player who possesses the ability to understand and work alongside the General Managers of the other business units, while at the same time not losing focus on achieving results in your own team.
With a keen eye for strategy and a dedication to excellence, you will ensure that every aspect of the Specialty Manufacturing business unit functions seamlessly, propelling it towards sustained success and a culture of empowerment.
About You:
Relevant tertiary qualification, ideally in engineering or project management A demonstrated track record of success in a senior management role Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate team members Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data driven approach to decision making Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and financial analysis Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels Strategically and holistically thinks about the long- and short-term implications of decisions Maintains a high level of accountability and inspires the same in others, empowering them with a sense of ownership to make decisions.
