About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

This role is based in Tāmaki Herenga Tāngata, Henderson Office.

As a Kaitakawaenga you will play a critical role in our region's Integrated Delivery Team by;

  • Work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Collaborative Action Table (MDCAT) and support follow up work with a learning support and education focus. This may include supporting excluded students to reengage in education, working with whānau, kura and other supporting agencies.
  • Working proactively with Māori tamariki, mokopuna and their whānau, hāpu and iwi, educators and Learning Support colleagues to identify and eliminate barriers to access to learning support services for Māori students with learning support needs.
  • Addressing key outcomes for whānau in key plan meetings with educators, Ministry specialist staff and agencies.
  • Working effectively as part of a transdisciplinary team.

About you | Mōhou ake

To be successful you will need;

  • Well versed in Te Ao Māori and able to use this in diverse settings, working with a range of people.
  • Have a high level of competence and fluency in Te Reo Māori and Te Reo me ona tikanga.
  • Have lived experience working alongside whānau and ākonga to support engagement in an educational pathway.
  • Experience and ability with working in complex environments, including with whānau, kura/schools and across agencies.
  • Ability to work effectively in Māori settings including the auraki education system and Māori education from kohanga reo, kura kaupapa, wharekura and whare wananga.
  • A full driver's license.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake

Te Mahau | Te Tai Raro is a frontline group. Our frontline groups will collectively provide leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services, such as learning support and education advice and regulation functions for schools and early learning services.


Our field staff work closely with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Māori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.
