About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
This is a permanent, part-time (3 days a week) role, based in our Albany office.

As a Kaitakawaenga you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by;

  • Working proactively with Māori tamariki, mokopuna and their whānau, hāpu and iwi, educators and Learning Support colleagues to identify and eliminate barriers to access to learning support services for Māori students with learning support needs.
  • Working with and alongside adults to develop appropriate communications, consultation and cooperation to promote a welllearning lifestyle for tamariki and rangatahi Māori requiring additional quality supports across all education settings.
  • Addressing key outcomes for whānau in key plan meetings with educators, Ministry specialist staff and agencies.
  • Working effectively as part of a transdisciplinary team.

About you | Mōhou ake

You will be a New Zealand Registered Psychologist under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act and hold a current practicing certificate.

You will have a master's level tertiary qualification or a post-graduate Diploma in Educational Psychology or Clinical psychology (or equivalent)

You will also have / be able to demonstrate:

  • As a Kaitakawaenga you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by;
  • Working proactively with Māori tamariki, mokopuna and their whānau, hāpu and iwi, educators and Learning Support colleagues to identify and eliminate barriers to access to learning support services for Māori students with learning support needs.

Te Mahau takiwā collectively provide leadership and integrated services to the education sector. Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Raro (North) in the Ministry.


Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Māori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.

Our frontline groups are represented at the leadership level of decision making for Te Tāhuhu. The frontline hautū | deputy secretaries hold at least one National Portfolio to complement their frontline role.
