Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity


Starship Community provides multidisciplinary care and cultural support to children, young people and their whānau living within the Auckland DHB area.

The service has three locality based community teams, a central team and a hearing and ear health team.

Our nursing, allied health and technical staff are responsible for delivering health care services to children, young people, their families and whānau in their home, school and community settings.


We are committed to delivering whānau -centered care that focuses on the health and wellbeing of children and their whānau.

Getting to know our communities, working closely with them, removing inequities and barriers to health care for priority populations, are key drivers for us each day.

We are currently seeking an experienced Te Pou Takawaenga to join our team.

You will act as kaitakawaenga to support the positive engagement of tamariki, rangatahi and whānau with health and social services.

A working knowledge of whānau ora practice forms the foundation of this mahi.

A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong networks with iwi and urban Māori health and social service agencies will be essential to the success of this role.

Ideally you will have child and family social work experience including child protection.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

The successful applicant will:

  • You must have a strong sense of team and leadership
  • You will be committed to providing cultural support and improving health outcomes for children and their whānau
  • Be a qualified registered Social Worker and will have a NZ registration with SWRB
  • Have a current annual practicing certificate (APC)
  • Current New Zealand driving licence
  • Previous experience working in a health setting and in child protection would be an advantage
  • Experience working with Maori and Pacific communities is desired
