Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role


The Senior Analyst provides support and information to multi-disciplinary teams through the collection, collation and analysis of data from across the education sector.

The analyst will produce solutions to questions by manipulating large and complex data sets so that they inform regional insights.

This includes developing and reporting on indicators of performance, analysis and monitoring of trends and contributing to evaluation work.

Mōhou ake | About you

  • Proactively provide information support to regional and national Ministry teams and monitor the performance of the sector through the collection, collation and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data with the aim of raising student achievement.
  • Effectively analyse data and information to identify priority work in schools and early childhood services. This may include developing and maintaining systems for databases, undertaking documentation processing and carrying out analysis projects as required.
  • As required, provide information from databases to support analysis and monitoring work through ad hoc reporting
  • Translation of statistical data into usable information and performance indicators for formal measurement of achievement for interventions.
  • Communication and presentation of data and information for use by Ministers, Ministry staff and the sector
  • Identify reporting requiring automation, develop alongside staff system changes in order to automate reports such as Universal Design, or Database design.
  • Challenge current thinking and developing new tools, raise new ideas, and provide innovative ways to undertake analysis and provide insights.
  • Translate the results of analysis and modelling for target audiences. This includes the creation of Power Bi dashboards.
  • Collate various data sources into a preferred solution, enabling the business to be effective across it planning functions.


You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
