Are you a strategic leader who is keen to drive Manatū Hauora's role leading health research system strategy through an ambitious work programme?

Ko wai mātou - About Us

At Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance.

We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters.

Our mahi ensures New Zealanders are cared for by a health system that is innovative, future focussed and world leading.

This role is part of Manatū Hauora's Evidence, Research and Innovation Directorate, which delivers fit-for-purpose analytics, research, science advice and economic analysis, and collaborates with sector partners to provide actionable insights for evidence-based decision making focused on the achievement of Pae Ora.

It is also the Directorate responsible for system-level, strategic leadership of the health research sector.

Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do

This is not a research role; rather it is focused at the system-level to consider what is needed for Aotearoa New Zealand to have a world-leading health research and innovation system.

In this context, you'll be responsible for a team leading health research strategy - more specifically, the New Zealand Health Research Strategy - on behalf of Manatū Hauora.

You'll hit the ground running to continue building a growing, high performing team.

You'll refine and own an ambitious work programme that includes initiatives to strengthen the clinical trials environment in Aotearoa and to refresh and develop system strategy for health research and its workforce.

You'll establish close working relationships with other agencies and organisations, particularly counterparts at Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora, and you'll be a connector across government, the health system and the health research sector.

You'll be a pivotal leader who ensures Manatū Hauora's system-level, strategic leadership of health research brings positive transformation across the health and disability sector, especially for the benefit of Māori, Pacific and other underserved groups.

Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring

  • An advanced qualification in an area relevant to health research, or comparable practical experience
  • A solid understanding of the health research sector in Aotearoa and the opportunities there are for strengthening it, including with regards to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity
  • Experience in leading and/or developing systemlevel strategy
  • Demonstrated success in managing the delivery of longterm, strategic objectives
  • Experience of successfully delivering initiatives in collaboration with other government agencies or organisations
  • Existing relationships with a range of health research and health system stakeholders
