You will be providing a wide range of accounting support as part of the Corporate Finance Office (CFO) with the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).

This role supports the delivery of best practice accounting across the organisation and is responsible for maintaining effective systems to meet NZDF's transactional accounting responsibilities.


Duties for this role include:

  • Handling a wide range of financial tasks including fixed assets management, tax compliance and reconciliations, payroll accounting, internal control and monitoring;
  • Providing financial analysis and advice on fixed assets, tax, and payroll issues;
  • Investigating financial anomalies and providing effective support to Audit NZ and Internal Audit teams;
  • Advising stakeholders on accounting transactions, processes and deadlines; and
  • Providing support to wider CFO teams as needed.

Please Note:
The formal title for this role within NZDF is Senior Accounting Analyst.

You will be an enthusiastic self-starter who can manage your own workload effectively and be able to work autonomously, as well as part of a team.

This role requires strong attention to detail and an ability to communicate technical financial information with non-technical audiences, while following up on deadlines or pushing back on issues as needed.


Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience within an accounting role, or studying towards an accounting degree;
  • Experience with ERP packages such as SAP, Oracle or similar accounting software;
  • Ability to operate to deadlines, multitask and proactively plan ahead;
  • Knowledge and understanding of GST, FBT, WHT, and PAYE Pay Day Reporting;
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with ability to engage and influence; and
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills as well as problem solving skills.

NZDF Finance indirectly supports the Output Plan by providing financial services to support decisions or through the provision of specialist financial support to our business customers.

Our people also contribute thoughts, ideas and observations from a multi-disciplined perspective to all levels of the NZDF to help with the formation and implementation of strategy.

The Business Services Group within CFO Portfolio is responsible for the effective management of corporate purchasing, accounts payable and Treasury payment functions (PTP) as well as transactional accounting and compliance (including fixed assets, payroll accounting, accounts receivable, balance sheet reconciliations and tax compliance activities.
