Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

As Director of Finance, you will play a critical role in managing and leading UC's Financial Services team, providing financial analysis and reporting, assessing financial risks and opportunities; setting and tracking financial goals, objectives, and budgets and contributing to UC strategies.

You will achieve this through:

  • Providing financial strategic recommendations to the senior leadership team
  • Providing leadership, coaching, guidance and advice for finance activities in the Executive Director portfolio
  • Be responsible for the oversight across all of UC's financial activities, including the provision of information to support operational and capital expenditure, revenue collection and third party funding
  • Coaching and supporting internal and external team members to develop good financial acumen and in identifying and developing business proposals that meet the University objectives
  • Leading the transformation of financial and other administrative processes across UC utilising the latest technologies
  • Leveraging initiatives for broader UC business opportunities from Financial Services and UC.

You will hold a New Zealand recognised qualification as a Chartered Accountant, or equivalent and have extensive professional experience years) and at least five years in a senior leadership role managing a large team. You will be able to demonstrate experience in leading and managing change: in a large ERP implementation project, a financing context, and finance functional leadership.

You will also have:

  • Previous success and experience in a financial leadership role with a sound knowledge of business management, finance theory, practice and trends
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability in running smooth and effective business processes, new ventures, extending to the negotiation of complex contracts
  • demonstrate exceptional relationship management, skilled communication able to adjust your communication to the audience, ultimately building trust
  • Thorough understanding of business needs and market conditions which could impact on UC business and strategy, particularly in the Tertiary sector
  • Strong understanding of legal requirements and contractual obligations with an awareness of the potential impact on business activities
  • A commitment to upholding the values, tikanga (protocols and processes), kawa (rules) of cultural practice and traditions as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri, and valuing te reo Māori.
