At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary.

We are making significant changes to how we deliver our purpose.

  • Give priority to regional and local voice.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
This is a full-time fixed term role directly linked to the NZC Review of Assessment Standards. It will commence as soon as possible and ends 28 March 2025.

Mōhou ake | About you

  • Have prior stakeholder's engagement experience including with school leaders, teachers, tertiary providers, and wider communities; whānau, hapū and iwi to support decision making and sustain improvement and change.
  • Be sensitive to cultural values and have a good understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and be able to articulate their understanding of mana ōrite mo te mātauranga Māori.
  • Bring interpersonal skills and superior writing skills that will complement your ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders as a representative of the Ministry

Experience and qualifications:

  • A Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline which reflects an understanding of the National Curriculum and assessment and NZ Diploma of Teaching (or equivalent).
  • Mēnā he matatau ki te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, he wana ake tērā.
  • A deep understanding of current pedagogical practice and NCEA related assessment practice is necessary.

Te Poutāhū provides strengthened and inclusive curriculum leadership, expertise and partnership for The New Zealand Curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and Te Whāriki, as well as providing expertise and resources for quality teaching.


We bring together curriculum, teaching expertise and evidence for the development, support and review of inclusive curricula, assessment and NCEA.

Our strengths are across te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori, disability, inclusive learning support and culturally relevant content so that Te Mahau supports learning that is inclusive for all ākonga.
