Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand Auckland Transport Full time

Auckland Transport is leading the development of transport infrastructure and solutions that enable healthy and accessible communities.

Regardless of your choice to walk, cycle, drive, take the ferry or train, we are passionate about working together to deliver safe, efficient, innovative and sustainable options whilst providing a transport system that will create a vibrant and connected Auckland.

We are on a journey and working to shape our organisation through an ambitious transformation programme providing for more climate-resilient, effective, and efficient AT.

Transitioning Auckland's transport network on such a mammoth scale is no mean feat and we need a talented team to ensure we are up to this task.

We have two Senior Planner roles available in our Consent Planning Team - one permanent and one a 12 month fixed term maternity leave contract. These roles will play a pivotal part in the consenting of multi-modal services in the future Auckland public transport network.

We have a team of consent planners who are responsible for working alongside our project managers to secure the consents for our projects.

The successful candidates will help shape AT's delivery of measured but innovative high value shared mobility solutions to and from public transport services.

  • Work with planning consultants who prepare the applications on behalf of AT for larger more complex projects to ensure they are prepared to a high standard and that the draft conditions are fit for purpose and consistent with other AT projects.
  • Lodge applications on behalf of AT and then along with the consultants, manage the post-lodgement process at Council.
  • Some planners in our team also have the opportunity to work in Alliances such as Te Tupu Ngātahi, Supporting Growth Alliance and Eastern Busway Alliance.
  • For the smaller, simpler projects we prepare the applications ourselves. We work with the project managers and consultants to define the project requirements, plan check the Auckland Unitary Plan to determine consent requirements and then prepare the applications and manage the consent processes ourselves.
  • Preparation of delegated reports identifying risks and recommending decisions on applications for works within designated land (s176/s178 RMA Request applications).
  • Seek subject matter expert opinion and advice on designs and applications from different teams at AT to evaluate and make recommendations.
  • Work with ATs key partners, including Manawhenua, Waka Kotahi, KiwiRail, Auckland Council, other Council Controlled Organisations and Eke Panuku.
  • A Planning degree qualification or similar discipline with a minimum 5 year's planning experience in consenting and ideally in infrastructure or local government
  • Good project management skills, community engagement experience and strong customer focus
  • You see challenges as opportunities
  • You have a flexible, pragmatic approach to solving problems
  • You find satisfaction in being in a team which mentors and develops team members
  • Desired full membership to NZ Planning Institute or working towards full membership.

At AT, weembraceinclusion and fully support building a diverse workplace where people come first and we feel safe, respected, valued and supported, inclusive of our differences. Our values are more than just words - they are integral to everything we do. Manaakitanga - We care, Tiakitanga - Safe with us, Whanaungatanga - We connect, Auahatanga - Better, bolder, together.

In addition, we also offer:

  • Investment in your professional development and training
  • Opportunity for greater leadership and accountability
  • ModernCBD (Wynyard Quarter) waterfront-basedoffice
  • Health and Wellbeing benefits

AT recognises that you might be perfect for this role even if you don't have all the requirements above. We also offer flexible working arrangements and are happy to discuss this further.

Please apply providing your updated CV along with a cover letter summarising how you meet the requirements of the role.

Please contact Lynn Miller on for any further information or questions.
