We are seeking an outstanding and experienced Palliative Medicine specialists to join our progressive team of Palliative Medicine Specialists. We currently have one part-time vacancy and are flexible on how we recruit to this role.

Hospice Waikato is the main community palliative care provider to the region comprising a 10-bed inpatient unit along with Rainbow Place, NZ's only specialist Children's Hospice facility.

Hospice Waikato also provides an at home service, a rural outreach programme, plus outpatient clinics.

Patients and /whanau/family of Hospice have access to a full range of psychosocial and spiritual support through illness and bereavement.

The specialist will work on the hospital consult team and cover both sites after hours.

The program has a close relationship with the University of Auckland's Waikato Clinical School and an Honorary appointment at an appropriate University level (Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor) can be arranged depending on the applicant's experience and academic qualifications.

There is a requirement for vocational registration or the potential vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

We are looking for someone with qualifications, training, experience or interests related to Palliative Care.

This is a challenging role which demands outstanding professional skills, commitment to the specialty and a vision of providing a team-based service founded on excellence in all aspects of the business.


The successful applicant will be employed by Te Whatu Ora, Waikato as a Senior Medical Officer with generous vacation and continued medical education (CME) leave.

Stipends are provided for conference leave as well as relocation expenses.
