Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

As a Senior Adviser Health & Safety in the Compliance and Response directorate of the Agriculture Investment Service (AIS) branch you will be responsible for providing advice, assistance, and support across the branch to enable a consistent approach to operational management of health and safety that is effective and sustainable.


You will focus on promoting leadership in health and safety, taking a systematic approach to identifying and managing risk, and involve managers and staff in creating safe systems of work and provide work environments that are injury-free.


A key part of the role is to work collaboratively with other team members, the wider Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and external parties, to ensure a consistent and aligned approach to health and safety is adopted across AIS.


This role will give you the opportunity to create change at the ground level as we launch our Plan Safe to Be Safe programme.

  • Have skills and experience in leading health & safety risk management
  • Demonstrate excellent organisation and planning skills

We are responsible for the operational delivery of compliance services associated with animals via our animal welfare inspectors, and National Animal Identification and Tracing staff.

We also have staff who work regionally, and with farmers and growers.

We help people access a range of information, expertise and funds that can build sustainability and value in their business.

We also support community resilience, including response and recovery after significant adverse events.
