As the owner and operator of New Zealand's national electricity transmission system, Transpower holds a unique position in the energy sector.

We provide the critical infrastructure and market system that connects electricity generators to major electricity users and the distribution networks that deliver electricity to homes and businesses.

Transpower has more than $5 billion in assets that run the length and breadth of the country.

Our people operate the electricity market system in real time, via our National Control Centres, and manage the operation of our infrastructure from our two National Grid Operating Centres.

The Opportunity


The Human Resources Business Partner position is part of the People Business Partnering team, responsible for enabling leaders and managers to be outstanding in their people management - getting the best out of their teams and creating an environment that great people want to be part of.


You'll work closely with the Head of People Business Partnering, and your Senior Leadership Team partners to actively influence managers of all levels in assigned portfolios with a workforce including technical, engineering, ICT, and corporate employees, who all care deeply about enabling the energy future for New Zealand.


With no two days the same, you'll actively contribute to the development and implementation of data-informed strategies, plans, frameworks, and policies aligned with the organisational priorities.

You'll provide coaching, support, and strategic advice to managers, across the entire employment lifecycle to enable achievement of outstanding outcomes in terms of the performance, engagement (already in the top 25% of Energy and Utilities) and development of their people.


Transpower is funded in five-year regulatory control periods so there is a well-defined pipeline of work - and we need phenomenal people to deliver it.

Key to this is the exchange of transparent, collaborative, and cohesive communication within the wider People team to ensure we build our capability and operate in a seamless fashion to deliver exceptional service which enables our business.


What will you bring?
Passion, energy, credibility, and outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Your previous experience will be underpinned by a tertiary qualification, preferably with Human Resource, management, psychology, or other relevant papers.

Principle-based and pragmatic thinking, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • Deep generalist experience as a senior Human Resources professional supporting evolving organisations. Your key stakeholders will have included commercial GM's and senior leaders.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills and ability to influence and build capability and design, people centric, and commercially pragmatic solutions at all levels.
  • Significant experience in managing change (ideally optimisation and growth focused requiring organisation and job design) to enable a fit for future organisation/s.
  • An indepth understanding of NZ employment legislation, integrity, and exceptional judgement.
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
A coaching accreditation and experience in infrastructure, IT, engineering, or utilities is advantageous.
