The Opportunity:


Our Biosecurity Field team have a contract to provide services to support a plant restoration project on the Kapiti Coast between Paraparaumu and Paekakariki.

This contract involves site preparation by spot spraying with knapsacks and subsequent planting of 25,000 trees by the end of August.

We need people confident using handheld devices/ technology, high level of personal fitness, team players and a safety focused attitude.

Additional roles may include assisting with the protection of New Zealand against exotic pests, disease incursions, surveillance trap monitoring for the MPI surveillance programmes and eradication.

We are currently looking for a Senior Biosecurity Field Officer to join our Wellington team on a Fixed Term basis from Mid - May to the end August 2023


The Senior Field Officer will lead a small team of individuals as well as manage a range of Biosecurity monitoring activities.

This is inclusive of trapping, site selection, inspection, data entry and sampling.

This includes assigning trapping locations, monitoring weather conditions, following set procedures and processes, problem solving, and ensuring that electronic data is recorded accurately.


About you:


You will be passionate about motivating, leading and inspiring a small team and have prior experience as a leader who can foster and maintain strong relationships, together with the ability to think on your feet and provide direction.

In addition, you enjoy the great outdoors and field-based work. You have prior experience with carrying out trapping functions in accordance with set procedures.


You will pride yourself in having a strong health and safety focus, a full clean driver licence, experience driving 4WD would be advantageous but is not essential along with a keen interest in technology.

Your verbal and written communication skills, eye for detail and passion for quality are second to non.

You will have a natural ability to build and maintain positive relationships, be detail orientated, and have a resilient nature with resolving challenges.


Prior experience in the primary sector (farming, forestry, horticulture) and Inspection would see you do well in this role as well as knowledge and skills in Biosecurity.

Current Growsafe Standard certificate would be advantageous but is not essential.
