Our purpose | To mātou Kaupapa

The Crown Response Unit coordinates the Government's response to the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry.

Our current work programme is focused on responding to the Royal Commission's interim report that recommended the development of a new independent redress system for survivors.

The Commission also recommended, and the Government agreed to four immediate pieces of work ahead of the establishment of the new independent redress system

These are:

  • Establishing a service for survivors to share their experiences of abuse in care
  • Improving survivor's access to their care records
  • Progressing rapid payments for historical abuse claimants
  • Work on a public apology to survivors

About the role | Mō te tūranga

The Project Lead is responsible for managing and overseeing both existing and future projects that may arise.

Outlined below is the initial responsibility that this role will hold, however in future, the responsibilities of this role will continue to adapt within and beyond Apologies and Survivor Experience Service work as required.

In the first instance, the core responsibility of this role is to lead the coordination and end to end delivery of the national apology process.

This role will be accountable for designing, coordinating and delivering tangible actions following the national public apology process alongside agencies.

The role will also have a core responsibility to continue to support the implementation of the Survivor Experience Service mahi, including the design of the adaptations.

The role will also remain connected with apologies and Survivor Experience Service related work through detailed design, mainly through the Redress function.

This will provide alignment with ongoing immediate work and the design of the new independent redress system.

What you can bring | Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu

  • Demonstrated strategic project lead experience in a humancentred design programme environment.
  • Experience working with central government, Ministers, and public sector leaders.
  • Understanding of, and experience in working across a range of organisations, communities and leaders.
  • Ability in stakeholder engagement and development of networks across and outside of agencies.
  • Ability to quickly identify, establish and build strong working relationships with stakeholders and gain trust and support among colleagues.
  • Strong planning and delivery management skills.
  • Sound knowledge of and respect for the Principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Sound knowledge of tikanga Māori and how this is used in a work setting.
  • General knowledge of te reo and how this is applied in a work setting.
  • An understanding and appreciation of issues and concerns within the Māori, Pasifika and whaikaha/Deaf and disabled communities.
  • Sound knowledge of public sector and/or in large service/community organisations.
  • Ability to work well within and across teams.
