Mō te tūnga | About the role

You will be joining an in-house creative team in a One Person Crew (OPC) videography capacity, capturing and creating a wide range of video collateral to tell stories and provide footage of the effort being done by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).

This role requires exceptional video production skills to work on a wide variety of projects, from smaller self-directed OPC projects through to collaborating with our wider team on larger campaigns.


Duties for this role will include:

  • Taking briefs and interpreting the needs of stakeholders;
  • Meeting with internal stakeholders to ensure all briefs are met correctly;
  • Conducting all production requirements, from preproduction through to filming and postproduction;
  • Traveling to camps, bases and overseas to capture footage and create videos;
  • Adhering to the NZDF Identity Standards throughout all projects; and
  • Collaborating with the wider team as required.

Please note:

The successful applicant will hold a Full New Zealand Drivers' License, preferably with the ability to drive manual vehicles, and will be required to travel frequently, both internationally and domestically.

You will need the ability to create a strong narative from start to finish, which will include planning and executing every aspect of the produced product, through to filming, editing and delivery to ensure you are selling the right solution to a wide audience.

You will have a can-do attitude, great work ethic and have a proactive approach to achieve what needs to be done for the organisation, while staying flexible to the ever changing priorities at short notice.


Ideally, you will also have:

years experience in all aspects of video production with strong camera, lighting and editing skills;

  • Experience in short form content creation and story telling for digital, web and social media platforms;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build good rapport and trust to a wide range of people in various situations;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • The confidence to work autonomously, as well as collaborating with the wider team;
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently;
  • Strong technical ability, including experience with editing software (Final Cut Pro preferred, alternatively Adobe Premiere) and professional video equipment (FS5, A7S, GH5);
  • Certification on Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) is an advantage; and
  • A good level of fitness.
