We need a motivated and energetic Groundwater Scientist with a passion for the environment to join our Knowledge Water Team. This is a permanent, full-time role, ideally based in our Wellington office.
About the role
We are looking for a senior scientist with groundwater expertise who can listen and respond to the needs of Greater Wellington, our region's communities, and the environment.
Working alongside our Wairarapa-based Senior Groundwater Scientist, you will:
- Lead regional groundwater programmes, as well as developing targeted scientific studies that assist with our environmental management programmes.
- Be a primary knowledge contact for policy and consenting staff who are looking for groundwater quality and allocation advice to inform regional plan development and consent decisions.
You will also:
- Work with highly motivated and experienced scientific and engineering staff across multidisciplinary projects to deliver robust science to inform council's collaborative planning process, catchment planning and regional plan development.
- Support the Team Leader in developing process and guidance for the team and Knowledge Function.
- Participate in collaborative processes across the national research sector and work with many of the leading research organisations in New Zealand to deliver the best information to inform resource management in our region.
Skills and experience required:
- Relevant post-graduate qualifications in groundwater science (or equivalent experience).
- At least five years' experience.
- Project management experience.
- A high level of written skills, including a demonstrated ability to undertake scientific investigations, analysis, and reporting.
- Proven ability to present science to a wide range of audiences, including mana whenua, stakeholders, and community groups.
- A working knowledge of scientific monitoring techniques, experimental design, QA/QC and management of environmental data.
- Sound understanding of resource management legislation in relation to New Zealand.
- Strong networking skills, the ability to mentor others, and an understanding of the importance of working in partnerships with others.
- A full and current driver licence.
