We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Farm Senior Technician to join the team of 4 at Aorangi Farm, based within 10 minutes' drive from Palmerston North. This full-time role reports to the Research Farm Manager and will take the lead on trial managing and delivering the technical operations on the farm. Some part-time weekend work is required on a roster of approximately 1 weekend in 4 on duty. An on-farm 3-bedroom home with school bus at the gate could be made available to rent.

What you will be doing

Assist the Research Farm Manager to co-ordinate delegated farm activities and take the farm lead in assisting to manage and deliver trials, alongside the science teams.

This 'hands on' role requires someone who has the work experience to demonstrate a high level of expertise to perform technical and animal husbandry duties, including planning, sampling, data collection and recording. The work involves collaborating with the science teams to successfully conduct their science trials while maintaining high standards of animal welfare, legislative, health & safety and regulatory compliance.

High standards of detailed record keeping using FarmIQ are required and a collaborative attitude to work as part of a cohesive team of farm staff, scientists and technicians to deliver high quality science and farming outcomes.

Your ideal background

  • 2-3 years' experience within a technical role, alongside experience in farming operations and working with livestock.
  • Experience in managing multiple priorities within tight timeframes.
  • An interest in science and research principles.
  • Proficient in MS Office and farm technologies such as Trutest and FarmIQ.
  • Physically fit.
