The opportunity
Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Iho Ake Trust are seeking a compassionate and proactive Support Worker to join our Attendance Services team. This role focuses on working directly with ākonga, whānau, and kura to identify and address barriers to regular attendance. You will play a vital part in improving educational outcomes through culturally responsive, strengths-based, and relationship-driven approaches.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with ākonga, whānau, and schools
- Conduct home visits, hui, and follow-ups to understand and address barriers to attendance
- Develop individualised attendance and re-engagement plans with clear goals
- Collaborate with schools, agencies, and community organisations to ensure wrap-around support
- Record and maintain accurate case notes, reports, and data in line with Ministry of Education and Te Taumata requirements
- Support attendance campaigns, community events, and prevention initiatives
- Uphold mana and cultural safety in all interactions and advocacy
About you
You are empathetic, adaptable, and confident working with whānau and tamariki in a range of settings. You'll bring:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with others
- Experience supporting whānau or rangatahi through education, social, or community services
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Understanding of or willingness to learn Te Ao Māori, tikanga, and Te Reo Māori
- A full, clean driver's licence and ability to travel as required
A qualification in social work, education, or a related field is desirable but not essential. Equivalent experience will be highly valued.
