At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. It's all part of our vision to leave Aotearoa better than we found it. We're a power, mobile, and broadband company, but we're so much more than that. We are transforming the ways we mahi, and how Aotearoa is powered, leading the charge on renewable energy and digitising customer journeys in ways not yet seen here. A team of 1000+ from all walks of life who love what we do, look out for each other, and learn from one another every day, we're stoked to be guided by our tikanga: we touch lives to make life better.
Here, you'll be part of a future-focused, empowered, and connected group, guiding bold investments and enabling confident decisions that shape the energy transition. Finance at Contact isn't just about numbers – it's about safeguarding trust, driving performance, and supporting high-impact initiatives. You'll find yourself in a collaborative matrix environment, surrounded by passionate experts who are committed to growing together and making a real difference for Aotearoa.
Job DescriptionKōrero mō te tūranga | About the role
As a Financial Accounting Specialist, your expertise will help deliver outcomes that matter – supporting investment cases, enabling commercial decisions, and ensuring financial integrity. You'll report to the Head of Risk & Assurance and work closely with Leads and cross-functional teams, contributing to everything from technical accounting and compliance to external audit coordination and strategic input for Board reporting. Your day-to-day will include maintaining the Financial Accounting Framework, preparing reconciliations and financial statements, advising on contractual implications, and supporting people development within the team. You'll be empowered to specialise, evolve methodologies, and grow your capability, all while helping Contact deliver on its vision for a sustainable energy future.
QualificationsKo wai koe | About you
You bring at least five years' post-qualification experience in financial accounting, ideally within the for-profit sector. Your technical expertise is matched by your commercial acumen and ability to link delivery to strategic outcomes. You're comfortable leading yourself and others, giving and receiving constructive feedback, and managing relationships with stakeholders, suppliers, and regulators. Experience in matrixed environments is a plus, as is a commitment to continuous improvement and inclusion. If you're passionate about making impactful contributions, championing governance and control, and adapting to change, you'll thrive here.
Must-haves include your financial accounting discipline and stakeholder management skills; nice-to-haves include experience with process improvement and technology automation.
Above all, you're someone who builds trust, shares expertise, and helps teams navigate complexity with clarity and confidence.
Additional InformationWe support our people to work how, where and when works the best. Most of the Finance team are based in Wellington and work 2-3 days a week in our office there (the rest at home), so that would be the place to be if you enjoy regular in-person team time, however this role can be fully remote, and we're open to applications from all over Aotearoa. You might be interested to know we have offices in Auckland, Tauranga, Christchurch, and Clyde, too.
Contact is not a place you'll stagnate. We are growing and offer superb learning and development opportunities along with a bunch of other perks like free health insurance cover, 4% KiwiSaver, access to Contact Shares, a 'Good to be Home' annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, a trail-blazing parental leave policy, discounts on Contact Energy products, and more.
