Our Finance & Business Performance team provides strategic financial leadership that ensures the FMA operates with confidence, discipline, and long-term sustainability.

The team harnesses digital tools and data-driven insights to modernise financial processes, enabling more efficient, seamless experiences both within the team and for those we partner with across the FMA. We actively seek out smarter, more agile ways of working that reduce friction, increase transparency, and help teams focus their efforts where it matters most.

As a Senior Accountant on a six-month fixed term contract, you'll be able to hit the ground running, starting immediately. This is a hands-on role that blends financial accounting, management accounting, and business partnering to support informed decision-making across the organisation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the end-to-end month-end process
  • Performing key month-end tasks
  • Producing monthly financial reports that provide high-quality, timely financial and business insights
  • Preparing half-year and annual financial statements that comply with Public Benefit Entity Standards
  • Managing the day-to-day audit relationship
  • Assisting the Head of Finance and Business Performance with drafting reports to senior leadership, the Audit and Risk Committee and the Board as required
  • Assisting the Head of Finance and Business Performance to identify risks, opportunities/savings or issues/cost pressures and develop contingency planning and strategies to minimise financial risk

He kōrero mōu | About you

You will be a qualified accountant (CA or CPA) with several years of work experience under your belt. You will have strong technical expertise and a collaborative mindset. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across the full spectrum of finance, from journal entries and work papers to preparing annual financial statements and board-level reports, as well as being comfortable working as a strong team player.

You will bring the following:

  • Excellent understanding of key accounting processes
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate financial data into strategic insights
  • Confidence in preparing half-year and annual financial statements in accordance with Public Benefit Entity Standards
  • A proactive approach to process improvement and automation
  • Ability to work constructively with others, challenge assumptions, and build trusted relationships
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change, and a willingness to muck in where needed
