About the Role
This is a key casual role delivering responsive, high-quality care to patients showing signs of acute deterioration. Working autonomously, you will support ward teams, respond to referrals, coach staff in real time, and assist in identifying patients needing higher-level interventions. Shifts are afternoons and evenings, across weekdays and weekends.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Patients at Risk service at Whakatāne Hospital plays a vital role in improving outcomes for vulnerable patients. The team focuses on rapid intervention, proactive support, and capability building within clinical teams. Whakatāne Hospital serves a diverse community across the Eastern Bay of Plenty. You'll join a small, tight-knit team committed to equity, sustainability, and quality patient care. This role offers a unique chance to contribute meaningfully to a region where healthcare makes a deep impact.

About you
You bring a calm, confident presence and extensive critical care experience. You know how to navigate complex situations, provide real-time coaching, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. You're reliable, organised, and focused on patient safety.
What you will bring:
- Current NZ Nursing Council registration and Annual Practicing Certificate
- Experience in Intensive Care or High Dependency strongly preferred
- Advanced assessment and clinical reasoning skills
- Clear communicator with a positive, team-first attitude
- Ability to work independently, across varied shifts
- Commitment to equity and clinical experience
