Health Care Assistant

Emergency Department

About The Role
This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate Health Care Assistant who thrives in fast-paced environments. You will be an essential part of the Emergency Department based at Whakatāne Hospital, working alongside a passionate, highly skilled nursing team delivering patient-focused care. From assisting with personal hygiene, mobility and comfort, to supporting clinical procedures and maintaining a safe, efficient space – your role is vital in helping patients feel cared for and supported during vulnerable moments.

This is a permanent part-time position working 0.7 FTE (28 hours per week) and includes shift work across Monday to Sunday.

About the Team/Service/ Location
The Emergency Department delivers 24/7 care to patients of all ages across the Eastern Bay of Plenty. The team is cohesive, experienced, and grounded in empathy, cultural safety, and teamwork. Located in on of New Zealand's most picturesque coastal regions, you will enjoy a lifestyle filled with sun, surf, and connection – both on and off the ward.

About You
You are calm under pressure, quick to lend a hand, and genuinely enjoy helping others. You understand how crucial it is to preserve a patient's dignity, even when the pace picks up. Your ability to follow direction, communicate clearly, and work cohesively in a multidisciplinary setting makes you an asset to the team.

What You Will Bring

  • Certificate in Health Care Assistance Level 3 or 4 (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or related setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexibility to work across rotating shifts, Monday to Sunday
