Mātauranga Māori Advisor

We are seeking a Mātauranga Māori Advisor to join our Māori Student Success & Equity team at EIT | Te Pūkenga, based in Hawke's Bay. This permanent, full-time role provides thought leadership and practical support to embed kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori approaches across curriculum design, staff development, and institutional strategy.
You will play a key role in advancing Herea Te Rā – EIT's Māori capability development framework – and ensuring culturally grounded education excellence.
The appointing salary for this role will be $60,000 to $85,000, dependent on skills and experience.
You will report to the Pouārahi Māori, Executive Director Māori and will be responsible for:
- Leading and sustaining implementation of Herea Te Rā across EIT.
- Advising on curriculum development and programme reviews to integrate kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori.
- Designing and delivering professional learning initiatives for kaimahi.
- Providing strategic advice on policy, equity initiatives, and cultural responsiveness.
- Building strong relationships with iwi, hapū, and Māori communities.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Depth of expertise in mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori.
- Advanced fluency in te reo Māori and deep understanding of tikanga, kawa, and te ao Māori.
- Experience designing and implementing professional learning and development initiatives.
- Knowledge of curriculum design and quality assurance in tertiary education.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Degree-level qualification in education, Māori studies, or a relevant field (postgraduate desirable).
