Pouwhirinaki- Māori Student Support Advisor

The Pouwhirinaki – Māori Student Support Advisor is a full-time permanent position that provides pastoral care, advice, and guidance to all ākonga, with a particular focus on Māori ākonga across levels and disciplines. This role exists to improve confidence, competence, and independence; enhance the learning experience; and support retention and achievement. It also fosters a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to EIT's Māori ākonga community and contributes to capability building for kaimahi working with Māori ākonga.
The appointing salary for this role will be between $65,206 and $75,383, dependent on skills and experience.
The Pouwhirinaki is based in our Student Support Services team at Te Pae Hono, Taradale Campus, reporting to the Pouārahi Ākonga – Student Support Services Manager, and will be responsible for:
- Providing pastoral support to Māori ākonga across all levels and disciplines.
- Developing and implementing strategic plans for Māori student support services.
- Delivering early interventions for ākonga at academic risk.
- Hosting events and creating opportunities for Māori ākonga connection and belonging.
- Collaborating with kaimahi and iwi networks to foster success for Māori ākonga.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Extensive lived experience of Māori cultural protocols and confidence in representing Māori culture.
- Strong understanding of Te Ao Māori and bicultural communication.
- Experience providing pastoral support and engaging with diverse ākonga needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
- Competence in using learning management systems and databases.
