About the Role

As our
AML Compliance Officer and Risk Associate
, you will be responsible for ensuring our business meets all AML and CFT obligations. You will act as a primary contact for audits, regulatory inspections, and scheme reviews, and you will work closely with our operational and leadership teams to maintain a robust compliance environment.

This is a hands-on role requiring accuracy, sound judgement, and the ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

AML and CFT Compliance

• Complete CDD, ongoing monitoring, and suspicious activity reviews
• Conduct transaction monitoring and customer risk assessments
• Perform Enhanced Customer Due Diligence for individuals, trusts, and entities
• Investigate suspicious activity and prepare SARs and PTRs for submission
• Manage the AML and CFT process on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
• Maintain accurate records, logs, and audit trails

Governance and Regulatory Engagement

• Act as the primary point of contact for AML and CFT audits and regulatory inspections
• Support external scheme reviews and follow up on corrective actions
• Review and update policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks
• Assist with internal audits and risk assessments
• Prepare reports for senior leadership and regulatory bodies

Cross Functional Support

• Provide internal guidance on AML, fraud risk, and compliance requirements
• Assist incident and breach investigations and support remediation plans
• Deliver or assist with AML and CFT training across the organization
• Support product and feature development from a compliance perspective
• Investigate blockchain transactions and wallet activity where required

What We Are Looking For

Essential experience

• Minimum 3 years' experience in AML, risk, or compliance (5+ years strongly preferred)
• Background in payments, fintech, financial services, or crypto
• Strong understanding of AML and CFT legislation and compliance processes in NZ & AU
• High level of attention to detail and analytical capability
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Proven ability to work in a fast moving, high volume environment
• Sound judgement and understanding of financial crime risk
• Professional integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information

Highly advantageous

• ACAMS, ICA, or similar compliance accreditation
• Experience with blockchain analytics or crypto risk tools
• Familiarity with the Australian AML/CTF regulatory environment
• Previous experience working in a fast-paced, lean startup environment

Requirements

• Successful police and credit checks
• Availability for occasional evening or weekend work if needed
• You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.

Primary Location

This role is based at our Christchurch Office and we strongly encourage applicants who can work on site.

Remote working arrangements may be considered for exceptional candidates in New Zealand or Australia who demonstrate the required experience and capability.
