Field Technicians

Pinpoint is an independent testing laboratory established in 2020 by New Zealand's leading Kiwifruit Post-Harvest company, EastPack, to provide laboratory testing services to customers across the Bay of Plenty region. The Te Puke based laboratory offers an accurate and efficient service to its customers to ensure they can make informed decisions for their businesses.

We are looking for Field Technicians to join our seasonal team for the 2026 kiwifruit season, starting early January. If you thrive in a vibrant team environment, a Field Technician role may be right for you

During January and February, Pinpoint Labs conducts pest monitoring as part of the Kiwigreen program. This involves working as a team, checking orchards for signs of pests, accurately recording any findings and collecting kiwifruit leaves for examination at the lab. the Kiwigreen program enables growers to know if their spray program is working.

From mid-late February until approximately May, Pinpoint Labs conducts testing on kiwifruit samples across six testing types, the results of which determine the maturity of the fruit. Field Technicians during maturity season are lone workers collecting fruit samples for the lab to test.  Guided by the Pinpoint app, Field Technicians collect 10+ samples a day across multiple orchards throughout the wider Bay of Plenty region.

Phone literacy, great communication skills, and a good level of fitness will be an advantage for this role (step counts can surpass 30,000 a day during peak season)  A full, clean New Zealand driver licence is also essential.

The Field Technician role includes being responsible for:

• Collecting of leaf and/or kiwifruit samples from orchards around the Bay of Plenty region, following on-orchard sampling best practice
• Ensuring all samples are collected in the appropriate timeframe and data is recorded accurately
• Following and maintaining orchard hygiene regulations and at all times
• Ensuring vehicles are kept clean and tidy and notifying team leader of any issues
• Following safe lone worker procedures when working alone
• Understanding and using GPS tracking during all collections, relaying any issue to the field support team and ability to read and understand orchard and road maps
• Day to day transportation of samples to and from orchards and to base
• Understanding the reason for sample collections and being able to confidently communicate this to necessary stakeholders
• Maintaining confidentiality and impartiality at all times

To be successful in this role, you will also ideally need:

• An understanding of the kiwifruit industry, orchards and grade standards is an advantage
• Understanding of the importance of a strong health and safety culture
• High level of energy and enthusiasm
• Excellent communication and attention to detail, with the ability to escalate relevant issues with timeliness
• Flexibility with days and hours of work due to weather conditions and weekend work when required
• Ability to follow instructions, work in a team or independently and operate efficiently
• Good level of physical fitness
• To be ok with working outside in peak summer conditions
