MilkTestNZ is a world class milk testing laboratory using highly automated processes and advanced technology.  We provide farmer payment services to most of the New Zealand dairy industry.  A range of microbiology, composition, analytical and specialty tests are carried out in the laboratory on a variety of milk types including cow, goat, sheep, buffalo and deer milk.

Join our dynamic team at MilkTest NZ as a Development Operations Engineer and play a pivotal role in ensuring we meet our goal is to provide innovative solutions and exceptional service to our clients.

The role requires a technically capable generalist with strong initiative, excellent customer focus, and the ability to work across a wide range of technologies.

This position suits someone who enjoys practical, end-to-end IT work, from workstation builds to server configuration, while also contributing to ongoing improvements, system visibility, and developer enablement. You will also be able to think on your feet, enjoy juggling lots of different jobs at the same time and trouble shoot issues quickly.

The successful candidate will be trusted to manage issues independently, contribute to projects, and ensure systems are reliable and well supported.

The Development Operations Engineer, will be responsible for:

  • Building and managing secure, scalable infrastructure across on-prem and cloud environments
  • Automating deployment, monitoring, and environment provisioning (IaC, CI/CD)
  • Supporting VMware clusters, HP servers, Fortinet firewalls, and Aruba switching
  • Enabling development and data teams with stable, permissioned environments
  • Delivering visibility through monitoring and dashboards (ELK, CheckMK)
  • Contributing to infrastructure projects, upgrades, and cloud integration initiatives

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • 5+ years in DevOps, infrastructure, or cloud engineering roles
  • Proficient in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python)
  • Experience with VMware, Fortinet, Aruba, Microsoft 365, and Linux/Windows systems
  • Skilled with monitoring solutions (ELK Stack, CheckMK or similar)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support both technical and non-technical users
