Working within the RNZN Publications Team you would be collaborating with technical writers, command/ leadership and a range of staff in their area of naval expertise to deliver authoritative content that supports naval operations, training and safety.

Working within a supportive, tight-knit team where professionalism, positivity and a collaborative attitude are valued, this role supports Navy Operational and Mission readiness, compliance, and communication by ensuring personnel have access to accurate, timely and professionally produced publications in both electronic and hardcopy formats.

This position is responsible for the preparation and management of external and internal publications.

Once you have undergone training and are up to speed, there is the option for flexible working arrangements to be discussed.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for someone with exceptional editor skills and a passion for precision, structure, and service to become part of the defence force publications team.

You'll bring a sharp editorial eye, strong project management skills, and a deep respect for the importance of clear, authoritative documentation within a defence context.

Ideally you will have:

  • Proven experience in editing and publishing technical or operational documents.
  • Exceptional communication and language skills.
  • Strong understanding of document version control, metadata, and classification.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-trust environment.
  • Tech savvy: knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, MS Word styles/templates, and SharePoint.
  • Experience in Defence, government, maritime, or engineering sectors would be welcomed.

Low Level Security Clearance

  • You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
  • At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last five (5) years.
  • You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
