Stuff Digital is looking for an experienced Visual Journalist to help shape the future of visual storytelling across our digital, broadcast, and social platforms.

In this role, you'll be at the heart of our digital and video-first newsroom , producing compelling, high-quality video journalism that resonates with audiences across Aotearoa. From breaking news and livestreams to in-depth features, you'll create content that informs, engages, and inspires, guided by Stuff's editorial standards and commitment to journalistic excellence.

What you'll do

  • Produce original, high-quality video content for Stuff's digital, social, and broadcast platforms.
  • Capture, film, edit, and livestream news events with speed, accuracy, and creativity.
  • Use data and audience insights to shape and refine your storytelling approach.
  • Collaborate with reporters, editors, and digital specialists to deliver impactful visual journalism.
  • Embrace emerging technologies, including automation and AI tools, to enhance production efficiency and innovation.
  • Engage with audiences across social platforms to grow community connection and drive engagement.
  • Maintain strong editorial judgement, technical standards, and adherence to Stuff's code of ethics.

What you'll bring

  • Proven experience in digital and broadcast journalism , including filming, editing, and producing across multiple formats.
  • Strong technical proficiency with broadcast-grade cameras, mobile journalism kits, livestreaming, audio, and lighting .
  • Skilled in video editing software and familiar with social media publishing tools .
  • Ability to work confidently in fast-paced news environments , from breaking stories to planned features.
  • A creative mindset, willing to experiment, test, and innovate in storytelling formats.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a focus on team success.
  • Solid understanding of media law, editorial standards, and audience metrics .
  • Adaptability and resilience, with the capacity to respond to shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with emerging AI technologies used in news production, such as automated editing, transcription, and content tagging tools.
  • A willingness to explore and adopt AI-driven methods to improve efficiency and creativity in visual journalism.
