Tucked into the edge of Frankton Marina, The Boat Shed Café is a Queenstown icon – historic, scenic, and always buzzing. Set inside a beautifully restored 1860s railway shipping office, it's the kind of place people bring their out-of-towners, celebrate slow mornings, and linger over lakeside brunches.
Our menu is seasonal, thoughtful, and full of flavour – a reflection of the region and the people who pass through it. Now we're looking for a motivated Kitchen Hand and skilled Chefs of all levels to bring heart to the kitchen, contribute their craft with confidence, and play a key role in the next chapter of this beloved café.

A day in your life:
The lake's calm, the espresso's hot, and the kitchen's already waking up. You arrive, jump into prep, and help bring the kitchen to life - whether that's setting up your section, getting ahead on mise en place, or supporting the team with the essentials that keep everything moving.
As service kicks off, you're in the flow.
If you're a Kitchen Hand, you're keeping the engine running - washing and sanitising equipment, clearing dishes, wiping surfaces, unpacking deliveries, rotating stock, and supporting basic prep as needed. You're the backbone of the kitchen, keeping things clean, organised, and safe so the team can deliver great food.
If you're a Chef, you're running your section with confidence. You're preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes to a high standard, following recipes and portion controls, keeping communication sharp, and maintaining consistency through the busiest moments. You monitor your mise en place, check stock levels, keep your station spotless, mentor junior staff, and contribute feedback on specials, seasonal tweaks, and menu development. You know how to balance speed, quality, and cost - and you do it well.
Mid-service, everyone is working in rhythm - Chefs, Kitchen Hands, and the front of house all moving with purpose. When the rush settles, you help reset, tidy down, and prepare for the next day. No matter your role, you're part of a team that values good food, good people, and pride in a job well done.
You are someone who:
Has experience working in a commercial kitchen - either as a Kitchen Hand or a Chef
Works cleanly, efficiently, and with strong attention to detail
Communicates well and values teamwork in a busy environment
Handles pressure with a calm, organised approach
Has a genuine passion for flavour, seasonality, and good food
For Kitchen Hands: doesn't mind a bit of hard work, able to follow instructions, and eager to learn
For Chefs: is confident running a section and maintaining high standards under pressure
