Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki | Auckland Kindergarten Association

Glenavon Kindergarten, located on the grounds of Glenavon School in Blockhouse Bay, opened in February 2025. We welcome up to 40 tamariki aged 2–5 and are supported by a fully qualified, highly experienced teaching team committed to nurturing confident, capable learners.

With generous indoor and outdoor spaces, tamariki are supported to explore, play, and grow through responsive, relationship-focused practice.

As an Enviroschools kindergarten, sustainable practice is woven throughout daily learning. We empower tamariki to develop environmental awareness, take action within their community, and build a sense of responsibility for the natural world.

This AKA kindergarten is open all year, responding to the needs of our community.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Head Kaiako to lead our team. This role is central to ensuring high-quality teaching and learning, fostering strong relationships with whānau, and upholding a warm, inclusive kindergarten culture grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

What You will Bring

  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and confidence integrating te ao Māori in daily practice
  • Strong leadership capability, including mentoring, guiding reflective practice, and supporting professional growth
  • Ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships with tamariki, whānau, kaiako, and community
  • Ensure quality outcomes through robust planning, assessment, and internal evaluation
  • Inclusive practice that supports belonging and participation for all tamariki
  • Support smooth operations and compliance in alignment with AKA standards
  • A reflective, positive, and professional approach

Requirements

  • Be a fully registered and certified ECE Kaiako with 5+ years' experience and current first aid certificate
  • Demonstrated proven team and pedagogical leadership experience
  • Experience working in partnership with whānau and community
  • Strong communication skills and professional integrity
  • Commitment to sustainability and ongoing learning
