The Role

We're seeking a Sales Development Representative to join our Portabuild sales team based in Christchurch. In this role, you will be the front line of our sales funnel, identifying, contacting, and qualifying potential customers.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Drive outbound prospecting: Run a daily cadence of calls and emails to decision‑makers in priority sectors; turn enquiries into quoting opportunities.
  • Qualify with purpose: Lead short discovery conversations to confirm needs, site constraints, budgets and timelines; record clear next steps and stakeholders.
  • Book and brief: Set up face‑to‑face quote meetings for the Sales Manager and provide a concise briefing (context, scope, risks, buying drivers).
  • Prep first‑touch documents: Draft design layouts, schedules of work and indicative build estimates for sign‑off, using our industry-leading systems.
  • Progress and nurture: Keep opportunities moving with timely follow‑ups; re‑engage dormant accounts and warm inbound/marketing leads.
  • Collaborate to deliver: Work with design, estimating, operations and finance to ensure quotes are timely, realistic and aligned.
  • Feed market intel back: Capture common objections, competitor moves and spec requests to help refine our offer and content.

Your Skills and Experiences

You'll be positive, personable and highly organised, with strengths in customer engagement and relationship‑building. Ideally, you'll have experience in sales development, telesales, or customer‑facing roles (construction/manufacturing exposure is a bonus, not a must). In particular, you need to be:

  • Confident making outbound calls and opening doors with potential customers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Comfortable with CRM (HubSpot) and Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
  • Curious, resilient, and self‑motivated; keen to master sales fundamentals.
