About the Role
Our Building Control team plays a vital role in ensuring safe, sustainable, and compliant development across Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt.
We're seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Building Officer who can deliver high-quality, responsive building code processing and provide technical leadership within the team.
In this role, you will:
- Process residential and commercial building consent applications, including amendments, Certificates of Acceptance, and Certificates for Public Use
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with the Building Act, NZ Building Code, and BCA Quality Management Systems
- Provide specialist advice, technical leadership, and conduct technical audits when required
- Mentor and support Building Officers and colleagues working towards their competencies
- Foster a positive and efficient customer experience, resolving enquiries and issues effectively
- Contribute to continuous improvement and support Council's response to emergency events when required
About You
You're an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Building Officer who thrives in a technical, people-focused environment. You'll bring advanced knowledge of the Building Act, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to ensuring the highest standards of compliance.
You will have:
- A Regulation 18 qualification in building, architecture, building science, or a related field
- Strong experience as a Building Officer with current competency at Residential 1-3 and Commercial 1-3 levels
- Advanced knowledge of the Building Act, NZ Building Code, regulations, and local government frameworks
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills with the ability to mentor and support others
- A customer-focused approach, adaptability to change, and strong computer literacy
- A current clean driver's licence
