We're looking for an experienced Traffic Controller, to join our OTNL crew.

The Ōtaki to North Levin (OTNL) project focuses on upgrading the transport link along State Highway 1 (SH1) between Ōtaki and North Levin to improve road safety, reduce congestion, enhance travel efficiency, and support regional economic growth. It is one of the Government's Roads of National Significance and is being undertaken by two Alliances – the north (delivered by partners Fulton Hogan, HEB, WSP and Aurecon) and south (delivered by partners Downer, McConnell Dowell, Beca and Tonkin + Taylor).

This exciting new four-lane 24.8km highway project will dramatically improve safety and resilience, providing better access to walking and cycling facilities for those moving around or through the Horowhenua and Kāpiti districts. The project includes multiple large complex bridge structures plus a full interchange at Taraua Road, a half interchange north at Taylors Road, two roundabouts and approximately 4m m3 of complex earthworks significant, drainage infrastructure and a structural asphalt concrete pavement.

As a Traffic Management Operative (TMO/TC), you will assist with the traffic management on site, with current relevant tickets, ensuring a strong commitment to safety.
 

In addition to the above you will:  

  • Control vehicle and pedestrian flow using stop/slow batons, signs, and operate automatic signals.
  • Install, maintain, and remove road signs, cones, barriers, and other traffic management devices in accordance with TMPs.
  • Remain alert to changing site conditions or hazards and respond appropriately to ensure safety.
  • Liaise with site workers, supervisors, and fellow controllers to ensure smooth operations and respond to any incidents.
  • Participate in daily tailgate briefings, understanding the risk management of each project.
  • Guiding traffic through traffic plans, ensuring efficient flow of traffic.
  • Raising concerns or questions with your STMS or Supervisor.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Hold Traffic Control Qualifications, TMO Worker ticket
  • Hold a minimum class 1 drivers' licence is preferred
  • Ideally experienced in or has an understanding of civil construction
  • Flexible to work any 5 out of 7 day including day, nights (Weekend work when required)
  • Experience as a Traffic Controller is ideal
  • Good communication skills

In partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Muaūpoko Tribal Authority, local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga, and the Horowhenua District Council, this project will be executed through a two-alliance approach.  Each alliance will be responsible for delivering a section of the road and associated works, ensuring a collaborative and comprehensive delivery.
